yes, I figured you probably weren't pregnant due to all the references to booze. and 'Julyish' sounded a little vague for a wedding. hopefully I will be able to make your July party, then. :-)

Considering I'll be working with Iraqis, probably not the best choice. The only Operations I'll hear about will be Hugh's stories from the hospital. I'll need cunning and stealth with those wiley academics though. And patience. Hmmm although like ODS, I don't have an exit plan.

Andrea ... How will I leave? Let me count the stages. On 13th April I'm celebrating Hugh's brief homecoming and my 38th in Nottingham to which you are most welcome should you want to come. I'm leaving 'work' on 30th June. Deliberate use of ' ' there (I spend more time reading and writing on this). Therefore more sparkles opportunities. Then there's another little life change due at the end of Julyish :-) - more champagne - before the off at some point mid August and therefore final imbibements*.

I am still thinking of a name for a blog. I won't have my bottom up there (wouldn't fit). I'm also hoping for an Arab audience and mustn't alert the censors. The name could possibly combine a Lawrencian angle, a Porterhouse Blues academic feel and the bureaucracy of the French Embassy in Cairo or the EU Office in India. The place I'm going to in the UAE means 'eye' or 'oasis', is known as the Garden City and is on the edge of the Empty Quarter.

*Our neighbours in UAE are from Middlesborough. There's an off licence over the road. Our South African and New Zealand friends are not noted for their sobriety. I may find myself enjoying something sparkling on arrival too. Saudi it ain't.

I guess that right now you are in the departure lounge. Bon voyage!

I was possibly fished in too for a couple of minutes. With all the Lost in Translation parallels that would 'of' (using the new natural vernacular :) ) been the spookiest thing ever if it were true.

Have a good flight back. I flew back from Oz once via KL and it were a right long way from KL to Heathrow. It's almost like the earth revolves away from the plane to make it take off as there's so much fuel on there.
